Macc Town 2 Eastleigh 0

Macclesfield shot down the Spitfires with two fine headed goals sending Eastleigh home empty-handed.

Domaine Rouse scored on his first game at the Moss Rose, and the ever-improving Paul Lewis secured victory on the hour mark.

It could have gone horribly wrong early on for Macc, when George Pilkington was judged to have hauled down Jai Reason in the penalty area. But Rhys Taylor proved his worth, flinging himself left to push Jack Midson's spot-kick away.

From that point all the chances came at the other end of the pitch, and on 33 minutes, Macc made one count. Waide Fairhurst's backheel allowed the overlapping Scott Barrow to cross from the byline and Rouse evaded his marker and thumped his header past the helpless Ross Flitney.

In among a couple of bad-tempered clashes towards the end of the half the impressive Adriano Moke laid one off for Andy Halls to let fly, Eastleigh thankful that Dean Beckwith's touch sent his shot wide.

Early in the second half Lewis was narrowly over with a speculative shot from distance, but when Paul Turnbull's sublime free kick invited his midfield partner to fire in the second goal, Lewis launched himself full-length to do just that.

The Spitfires had done themselves no favours with a series of, at best, reckless challenges and never seemed to fully focus on on the football side of things. As such, they couldn't muster any response of note and Macc's fine start to the campaign extended to six games.
