Welling United 0 Macc Town 0

Macclesfield brought a point back from Welling after a backs-to-the-wall stalemate.

It wasn't their most fluent outing but the draw was just reward for their grit and determination.

Macc were fortunate to have been on terms at half-time, with Rhys Taylor once again showing inspired form.

The keeper, who kick-started Tuesday night's win over Chester with a penalty save, was busying himself by thwarting goalbound shots from Joe Healy and Aristide Bassele.

And when he wasn't on hand Scott Barrow rescued the Silkmen with two last-gasp clearances in quick succession.

Staying by his post, the full-back somehow got his head to Bassele's header and then hacked away Zach Fagan's follow-up. With Macc not clearing their lines they were then given a let-off when Charlie Penny got behind the defence but fired against the near post.

Macc barely got into the Wings' half and their sole chance before the break fell to centre-back George Pilkington, but he miscued and sent his finish beyond the upright.

Although Barrow had a shot on target, their first, just after the break, Welling continued to make the running in the second half and Taylor was again called upon when Jamal Fyfield let fly.

But as the pitch deteriorated so did the quality on show.

Welling nearly took the three points deep into injury-time but Michael Chambers' towering header crashed against the crossbar and Macc breathed their last sigh of relief as they collected a point.
