Macc Town 1 Stockport County 0

Jack Hunter hit the only goal of the game to earn the Silkmen a place in the Cheshire Senior Cup final.

The Macclesfield midfielder struck with half an hour played, arriving in the box to turn in an Adriano Moke cross, and that proved to be the only time the well-matched rivals found the net.

John Askey named a much-changed team from the Conference defeat at Gateshead, with rare outings for Hunter, Jack Disney and Will Haining, while goalkeeper Ritchie Branagan came in for Rhys Taylor.

In the early stages Macc had the lion's share of chances but with Lee Bell's cross striking the County crossbar and Theo Bailey-Jones forcing a good save from Ian Ormson the visitors were able to stay on level terms.

The chances continued, with Moke firing a ball in for Bailey-Jones to send a diving header goalwards, Ormson again denying the winger. Soon after that chance County - who'd barely troubled Branagan - hit the woodwork, Jack Ryan crashing his shot against the frame of the goal.

The crucial goal came with Moke again the provider but once they'd edged ahead Macc couldn't extend the lead, though they went close to a second through Hunter and Bell.

Ritchie Branagan pulled off a fine save late in the day

Soon after the second half kicked off Andy Halls nearly netted against his former club, but his cross-cum-shot was dealt with by Ormson. But with Chris Holroyd spurning a great opportunity to double the lead, chances proved few and far between in the second 45 minutes.

County almost levelled late in the day as Tunji Moses tried his luck from distance, but Branagan pulled out a great save to preserve the lead and, once the three added minutes had passed Macc claimed a victory that means they'll face Northwich Victoria in the final.
