Macclesfield became the first club to beat Barnet at their new home as Connor Jennings and Rhys Taylor made their mark.

Taylor spared Paul Turnbull’s blushes with a fine penalty save in the first half.

With Macc being bombarded by the Bees, skipper had brought down Marciano Mengerink at full pelt in the box but when Mengerink took the spot-kick himself Taylor was down well to his right to push it to safety.

It was Taylor’s second penalty save in three games and served to lift the Silkmen.

And after weathering the storm Macc took the lead on 27 minutes from Peter Winn’s free kick into the box. With the defence static Jennings wrong-footed Graham Stack to put the visitors ahead.

And a cracking strike from a far greater range made it 2-0.

Jennings let a short ball come across his body to take out his marker and let fly, beating Stack’s right hand with a blast into the top corner.

Now on a roll Macc could have been further ahead with Barnet increasingly put-upon but Chis Holroyd, Danny Andrew and Jack Mackreth all failed to find the right finish.

Half-time saw Carl Martin taken off as a precaution but his replacement Efe Sodje had to come off with a knee knock, with Lewis Chalmers the next cab off the rank in defence and 25 minutes to see out.

And Barnet got a goal back through when Luisama Villa put Mauro Vilhete in for a strike inside Taylor’s near post.

Although the goal gave the Bees hope they were to no avail as the makeshift Macc backline saw out Barnet’s first home loss since their relegation.
