Macc Town 3 Chester 1

Heroes at either end of the pitch saw Macclesfield Town extend their excellent unbeaten home run against Chester.

In a frantic derby at the Moss Rose, Macc had survived a minor onslaught before sealing the points with three unanswered goals.

While goalkeeper Rhys Taylor proved virtually unbeatable with a wondrous string of saves - including one from the penalty spot - Waide Fairhurst slotted in the second penalty of the game before firing a stunning goal into the top corner from 35 yards.

After a stagnant half-hour, the game exploded into life when Macc's debut defender Liam Hogan felled Sean McConville in the box.

McConville elected to take the resulting penalty himself but, as he has done many times this season, man-of-the-match Taylor rescued his side with a fine diving save from the spot, somehow scooping the ball over the bar. He even found time to palm away Matty Brown's header from the resulting corner.

After former Silkman John Rooney turned the screw with a shot that thudded against the post referee Darren England evened up the penalty count seven minutes from the break, pointing to the spot after Jamie Menagh sent Macc captain Paul Turnbull tumbling to the turf.

And Fairhurst made sure he improved on McConville's effort, sending Jon Worsnop the wrong way to give Macc the lead.

Fairhurst doubled his and the hosts' advantage three minutes later, and he did it in some style. With few options on for him, he elected to let fly from 35 yards and found the top corner of Worsnop's goal for a brilliant second, and his seventh of the season.

It all looked done and dusted when Matthew Barnes-Homer hit a third for Macc seven minutes after the restart, firing home after Ben Heneghan did well to stop Chris Holroyd getting a shot away.

But just a minute later Heneghan was afforded a free header at McConville's corner and he powered in a header to make it 3-1.

Taylor denied Kingsley James with an excellent tip-over and also pulled off a fine double save, parrying Rhys Oates' shot and pushing the loose ball away from McConville.

Arthur Gnahoua couldn't find the right finish for a fourth late on but it made no difference as Macc saw out a 3-1 victory.
