Nuneaton Town 1 Macc Town 1

Captain Paul Turnbull's stunning free kick proved not quite enough as Macclesfield threw away two points at Nuneaton.

The skipper struck early in the second half for Macclesfield as they struggled to see off their hosts and although they looked to have done enough the hosts' Adam Dawson snatched an equaliser in injury-time.

Macc dominated the first half but couldn't make the breakthrough, although Waide Fairhurst rattled the bar midway through the half.

A neat passing move led to Matthew Barnes-Homer chesting the ball down for his strike partner, and Fairhurst crashed a superb drive against Reice Charles-Cooke's crossbar.

Barnes-Homer had a fine chance to open the scoring moments later when he found himself in yards of space and only the keeper to beat, but he somehow skewed horribly wide with the outside of the boot.

Nuneaton had had half-chances in the early stages but Rhys Taylor had been completely unflustered, a simple catch from Boro captain Gareth Dean his only contribution of note.

But although frustrated at the break, Macc edged ahead in style five minutes into the second half.

Arthur Gnahoua's charge was abruptly and unfairly halted 25 yards from goal. But Turnbull found such range to his liking and dispatched the free kick into the top corner of the goal, with Charles-Cooke rooted to the spot.

From that point the hosts huffed and puffed but couldn't muster much to trouble the Silkmen who, in truth, should have been home more comfortably.

Barnes-Homer fluffed a second chance in a one-on-one and Gnahoua was equally wasteful as injury-time loomed.

And midway through the second of three added minutes Adam Dawson grabbed an undeserved goal to send Macc home cursing their earlier wastefulness.
