IAN BRIGHTWELL'S Macc Town is slowly taking shape as the new season draws closer.

Brightwell has made his second new signing inside a week with the capture of experienced defender Richard Edghill on a one-year contract from Bradford City.

Following the signings of Martin Gritton, Francis Green, Danny Thomas and Michael Husbands, Edghill becomes the fifth new face of the summer at Macclesfield, and two more players are expected to sign new contracts subject to passing medicals today [Wednesday].

Having had just a matter of weeks in the Moss Rose hot seat, Brightwell has been forced to work fast in his first managerial post, to ensure that the Silkmen are ready to face Bradford City for the campaign opener on August 11.

"It's been a hectic few weeks," he admitted. "Once the squad is closer to being completed, I'll be a lot happier. Although they're longer, the days are just flying by, but I'm enjoying the job."

Although his reign got off to a losing start at Kidsgrove Athletic on Saturday, Brightwell is happy that his squad is moving in the right direction.

By the end of the club's seven-game pre-season schedule, Brightwell says he will have a squad big and talented enough to cope with the rigours of an English football season: "I'm pleased with all the new signings. The forwards are gelling well and working hard for each other. The atmosphere around the squad is very good and I'm really pleased with the way training's going" he told the Express.

"While I agree that we don't have enough players right now, I do plan to run with a smaller squad than we had last season.

"Two will be signing for us this week and, all being well, I'm hoping that at least one of them will play some part in the game against Stoke City on Friday."
