Chairman's not shy about money

MACCLESFIELD chairman Rob Bickerton made no secret of his glee at the financial windfall the club will gain from this weekend's match.

After a testing year in which the football club narrowly avoided disaster on and off the pitch, Bickerton delighted in reporting that each of the 4,500 supporters buying a ticket for Stamford Bridge would qualify for free coach travel to and from West London.

The substantial profits arising from the tie will ensure some much needed stability at the Moss Rose, but the prospect of walking out to face the Premiership champions has provided an extra incentive as the Silkmen battle their way out of relegation trouble.

Bickerton said: "It's going to be a significant financial boost but the real boost is the extra buzz that it's given the club.

"The buzz that we've got in the club comes as a result of Paul Ince and the new management team arriving, this has added to that and the performances we've seen recently have improved.

"All of these positives are contributing to the primary objective of staying in the Football League."

Although the game will not be televised live, a share of the gate receipts plus merchandising and radio payments are expected to see Macclesfield bank £500,000 from the day.
