Preview: Macc Town v Exeter

24/ 9/2008

EXETER have made a decent start in their first season back in the Football League and will be no pushover this Saturday.

Paul Tisdale's side have two wins, two draws and three defeats so far on their return after five years in the Conference wilderness.

The Grecians recently sold highly-rated defender George Friend to Wolves and he leaves behind almost an entire squad that earned promotion from the Blue Square Premier last season. Despite the loss of Friend, scoring seems to be Exeter’s main worry. Tisdale signed former top-flight striker Marcus Stewart in the summer.

However, the former Ipswich man has yet to score in nine outings so far. In fact defender Matthew Gill, with three, leads the early goalscoring charts for the newly-promoted side.

Exeter are a point and a place behind Macc going into this fixture, which has produced five draws and two Macc wins in the 10 previous league meetings. You do need to go back to October 1999 for Macc's last victory though, when Richie Barker scored the only goal of the game.
