NEW Macc Town hit-man Simon Yeo has been speaking about his excitement at the prospect of leading the line at the Moss Rose next season.

The 34-year-old free agent was snapped up by Silkmen boss Keith Alexander last week, and he is now keen to make up for a certain amount of lost time after disappointing spells at Peterborough United, Chester City and Bury.

Yeo, who was plucked from non-league soccer six years ago when Alexander was the manager at Lincoln City, said: "I was released by Chester at the end of last season and was clearly looking for another club.

"Keith and I have obviously worked together in the past and when he called I had no hesitation in discussing a possible move to the Moss Rose.

"Keith, as ever, was very positive about the plans for the future, and it is hard not to get excited about the opportunity to play for the club.

"In addition, being a Stockport lad and having my home there, I know the area well and it won’t mean having to move or travel any great length.

"So from that point of view it was perfect.

"Keith plucked me out of non-league football and for that I will always be grateful.

"He gives you confidence to go out and play and my first spell at Lincoln couldn’t have gone any better. The team was doing well and I was scoring goals, so it was a good time all round.

"The only disappointment was that we weren’t able to get past the play-offs.

"As a player you have a very clear idea of what is expected from you under Keith and he has this knack of getting players to perform to their full potential.

"I wasn’t surprised that the results picked up when he arrived at the Moss and I am sure the new look squad can carry that through into next season."

Meanwhile, further good news emerged this week when the Silkmen revealed that goalkeeper Jon Brain had agreed to extend his stay at the Moss Rose, after putting pen to paper on a two year deal.

The former Carlisle trainee joined the Silkmen two years ago from Port Vale, but was to suffer a serious leg break in the local derby at Edgeley Park back in November 2006, an injury that kept him out of action for close to 12 months.

Brain eventually returned to the first team last October, with the opposition ironically being Stockport County, and after gaining his match sharpness he went onto become the regular first choice between the posts under both Ian Brightwell and Keith Alexander.
