AMONG the watchers at the Moss Rose on Saturday was Prestbury resident and the brother of emerging Silk youths’ starlet John Rooney.
Manchester United’s England star Wayne had a guest seat in the McAlpine Stand and he was hoping to see his brother in action.
"I just came along to support my brother, I hope he gets on a gets a few goals," he told the Express.
"Obviously I live in this area so it’s nice to come along and watch a game.
"When you’re a footballer you’re always itching to play, whether it’s at Macclesfield, Sunday League or Premier League games."
Due to other work commitments, and his tendency to work during most weekends, Rooney senior had to admit that he wouldn’t be investing in a Moss Rose season ticket.
Although John was on the bench, Macc manager Keith Alexander said: "John is going to be a big player for this club, but it wasn’t the right time to bring him on."
