New star proves it's not all in the name

A POSSIBLE Moss Rose star of the future will take on the best young European players in this summer’s Catholic Schools’ Student Games.
Midfielder James Askey has been named in the Great Britain squad that will compete in the Under-16 championships, to be held in Malta in July.
The youngster is a member of the renowned Macclesfield Town Centre of Excellence and has now put his signature to apprenticeship forms.
The pupil of St Thomas More School in Stoke will start his journey as a full-time footballer in July.
The surname is sure to be familiar to Macc fans, as James’ uncles are former Silkmen Bob and John Askey.
Youth team coach John was adamant that his nephew should make his own way at the club and that he should not receive any preferential treatment during his trials for the youth squad. In fact the Moss Rose’s most revered figure passed on the assessing duties to centre manager Mick Holgate.
Holgate said: "John didn’t want James to be helped or hindered by being an Askey, but he’s a really good, steady young player.
"I’m sure he’ll do well in Malta and I’m pleased that we’ve signed him up."
