Wrexham 1 Macclesfield 1

MACCLESFIELD Town earned a vital point in their fight for Football League survival but might have had all three.

Jamie Tolley put Macc ahead only for Steve Evans to snatch an improbable equaliser for the struggling Dragons.

New Macc manager Ketih Alexander won the tactical battle, with his side denying the Welshmen space in an around the box and carving out the better chances.

They went close in the 21st minute when Richard Walker headed over the bar from six yards and then they tested keeper Gavin Ward with a powerful shot from Gareth Evans.

Macc took the lead in the 55th minute when Francis Green won a challenge in the box, the ball falling to Jamie Tolley who drilled home from 15 yards.

Tolley then shot inches wide before keeper Ward made a one-handed save to deny Danny Thomas.

Macc were unlucky in the 78th minute when giant cenre-back Evans got on the end of a Michael Proctor long throw to loop a header over the despairing Jonny Brain.
