Brentford 1 Macc 0
Simon Carter8/ 3/2008
RELEGATION-haunted Macclesfield were denied a much needed point in their battle for survival by a heart-breaking injury-time goal.
With only 30 seconds on the clock midfielder Glenn Poole bundled his way to the far post to send a looping header past the unlucky Jonathan Brain.
Brain had kept Macc in the game with a succession of brilliant saves. At the end of the first half he had diverted a Nathan Elder header onto the cross bar before blocking a fierce drive from Alan Connell.
Then as the Bees bombarded the Macc goal he was again on hand to divert a Karleigh Osborne header onto the bar before blocking another Connell drive.
New Macc manager Keith Alexander pointed the finger at his lacklustre strikers.
He said: "We are working hard but we need a goalscorer. None of our forwards look like scoring at the moment. I don't know if they're out of form or whether it's something more serious."
The Silkmen only created one chance of note, Sean Brisley sending a far post header inches wide in the 43rd minute.
