THE Moss Rose jinx struck struggling Macclesfield Town as yet another defensive howler sent them spiralling towards the relegation trap door.

Even though youngster Gareth Evans brought them back into the game in the 80th minute with his fifth goal of the season, they had been on the back-foot all night courtesy of the sort of mistakes, which have hanuted them of late.

As early as the fifth minute, on-loan centre back Sean Hessey and Ryan Cresswell left a speculative pass from Danny Boshell to each other, allowing live-wire striker Danny North to capitalise, lobbing the advancing Jonathan Brain from 20 yards.

Macc played some sweet flowing football and finally got their just deserts when Evans blasted a 10-yard volley home with minutes ticking down.

However ,the Cheshire side's inability to hold onto a lead once again surfaced when they stood still to allow midfield general Jamie Clark to thunder home an 83rd minute volley.

Macc's best chances to get back in the game had fallen to Evans in the first half with two fierce shots that were superbly saved by Phil Barnes.

After the break, on-loan striker Michael Synes missed another golden opportunity when he sent a simple header over the bar from six yards.

Even so, Macc nearly stole an equaliser in injury time with two chances. Jamie Tolley was first denied by Barnes' outstretched legs before skipper Terry Dunfield popped up on the edge of the box only to fire inches wide.

Macc have not now won at the Moss Rose since November 6 and are in grave danger unless they can revive stop the rot.
