We can win

ALTHOUGH the rain prevented Macclesfield from carrying on the momentum from victory at Peterborough, Ian Brightwell insists that he doesn’t fear trips to Darlington and MK Dons.

The Macc manager was left kicking his heels after last week’s fixture against Lincoln City was called off by referee Darren Deadman, while this week’s opponents had mixed fortunes - the Quakers had their third clean-sheet win in a row and Paul Ince’s Dons lost at Wrexham.

Far from dreading trips to third-placed and table-topping opponents within four days, Brightwell is looking forward to a tough few days, and wants his players to claim the wins that each previous meeting warranted.

"It was disappointing that the weather put a stop to our momentum," Brightwell said. "After we’d done so well to win at Peterborough, the Lincoln game would have been a good chance to build on that.

"We’ve got two tough games ahead but we’ve proved that we can go to difficult places and do well. We’re going there to try and win."

Brightwell admits that Macc haven’t always had the results they deserved but he remains confident as he looks to steer the Silkmen away from the bottom.

"We know we’ve not picked up enough points throughout the season - We played well enough in draws against these two teams earlier in the season, but we should have got more from both games.

"We’ve got the potential to win, we’re just missing the killer instinct, which is what it’s all about. But we’ll keep to our principles of how we play and we’ve got to do that consistently."

The Macc boss will have Francis Green available for selection on Saturday, although Jamie Tolley and Richard Edghill are only rated as ‘possible’ for Tuesday’s visit to stadium:mk.

Tommy Lee has been given the all-clear by his specialist to resume training.
