TWO Scott McGleish goals condemned Macclesfield to a narrow defeat in their first game of the festive season at Wycombe.

The Silkmen led early on but were ultimately undone by the Chairboys' leading scorer.

Criticised by Ian Brightwell for failing to take their chances in defeat at Stockport last week the visitors took their one clear goalscoring chance to grab a 17th minute lead.

Francis Green latched on to Martin Gritton's lobbed pass before clipping the ball over the advancing Wycombe keeper Frank Fielding.

Wycombe were level 15 minutes later. Adam Murray was harshly adjudged to have broght down Matt Bloomfield and McGleish fired his ninth of the seaosn from the spot.

In an opening to the second half similarly short of goalmouth action the Silkmen's defence restricted McGlish to one snap shot over the top.

However, they were undone by the tiny Scottish striker when the otherwise impressive Sean Hessey missed Russell Martin's ball in from the left and McGleish swept the ball home from close range.

Jonny Brain denied Sergio Torres a third with his legs eight minutes from time but sadly for Macc the damage was done.
