Shrewsbury 2 Macclesfield 0

Simon Carter
1/12/2007

MACCLESFIELD produced a poor performance at Shrewsbury to leave their season in danger of going nowhere.

An injury-ravaged side failed to test Shrews keeper Glynn Garner throughout the game and in the end the home side could have had more than the goal in either half they scored.

Shrews striker Stewart Drummond missed an easy offering in the 16th minute when he headed straight at Macc reserve keeper Jon Brain.

However Drummond made no mistake in the 33rd minute when he raced onto a long throw from David Hunt to loop a header over the stranded keeper.

Macc defended better at the start of the second half but were as good as dead in the 65th minute when Hunt latched on to a defensive header from substitute Martin Gritton to power home a volley from the edge of the box.

Shrews could have had another late goal but David Hibbert blazed wide from close range after a telling cross from Ben Herd.
