Rushden and Diamonds 3 Macclesfield Town 1

12/11/2007

MACCLESFIELD were dumped out of the FA Cup by non-league Rushden in a performance that lacked any passion.

Ian Brightwell swore on community radio after the humiliating performance and it was the most passionate moment of a lacklustre display.

They were caught cold by the Diamonds’ first attack in the 6th minute when Craig McAllister crossed for Simeon Jackson to sweep home from close range.

Martin Gritton and Gareth Evans both wasted chances for Macc before Diamonds doubled their lead on the stroke of half time with a close range header from the unmarked John Challinor.

Macc were three down on 55 minutes when Adam Murray lost the ball in front of the defence allowing Jackson to blast home his 13th of the season.

Gritton’s seventh goal of the season with a close range header was too little too late as they were humiliated by the Blue Square Premier outfit.
