Accrington Stanley 3 Macclesfield Town 2

22/10/2007

MACCLESFIELD gifted Accrington three points courtesy of a collection of defensive howlers fit for any bloopers tape.

After a stalemate first half when Danny Thomas hit the post for Macclesfield and Andy Procter hit the bar for Stanley, Accrington took the lead when David Morley fatally hesitated on the ball.

He then fluffed his clearance allowing Roscoe Dsane to joyfully round the keeper and score.

Worse was to follow three minutes later when Dsane was allowed to waltz down the left before picking out the unmarked Paul Mullin who scored from close range.

Macc were handed a lifeline when Graham Branch collided with Francis Green in the box, allowing Kevin McIntyre to slot home his second penalty of the season. And just three minutes later the Silkmen were level when Gareth Evans powered a 12-yard header into the top corner.

But once again their defensive inadequacies told when accident-prone centre back Timmy McNulty banged into his own keeper Tommy Lee allowing Dsane to poach the winner.

Macc nearly equalised at the death only for Peter Kavanagh to clear a deflected McIntyre free kick off the line.
