Chesterfield 2 Macc 2

Mike Glendinning
6/10/2007

DRAW specialists Macclesfield deserved more than the point they brought home from a compelling game at Saltergate.

Macc got off to the worst possible start when Felix Bastians' cross was headed back in by Aaron Downes and Adam Rooney volleyed home from close range.

The Silkmen enjoyed the greater possession in the first half and deservedly levelled on the half hour through Martin Gritton.

The dangerous Danny Thomas found the Scot unmarked at the far post and he notched his third of the seaso from a yard out.

The visitors' slick passing almost allowed Gritton to score again moments later but Gregor Robertson saved his side with a last ditch tackle.

Seconds after the restart Chesterfield led again when Rooney prodded home Phil Picken's drive.

Franny Green's fierce low drive earned a point for Macc with 17 minutes left after subsitute Simon Wiles had found the ex-Boston striker in space.

Both sides created chances in the latter stages but Ian Brightwell's men were unlucky not to have take all three points.
