Silkgirls’ winning run crashes at Denton

Macc Town Ladies 1-4 Denton

Macc’s run of three straight wins was brought to an end by a very good Denton side.

The match was played at a hectic pace throughout the 90 minutes and the visitors took a 2-0 lead within the first 15 minutes.

Macc were in some disarray but held out until the break as well as creating chances of their own.

In the second half the Silkgirls came out determined to pull an early goal back. However, their attacking instincts allowed Denton to score a third 10 minutes after the start of the second half.

Macc worked hard but the visitors always had the edge and were quicker to the ball, and, shortly before the end, went four ahead with a good header from a corner.

With the outcome settled Macc were playing for pride and a more respectable scoresheet and were rewarded late on when player of the match Jade Treanor was brought down in the area.

Treanor converted the spot-kick herself to give some respectability to the score.

After the defeat to the best team they have faced so far, the Silkgirls will be looking to redress the balance in the return fixture.

Macclesfield’s second team also had an off-day with a below-par performance against a competent Vauxhall outfit.

The visitors took a very early lead but the Silks equalised straight from the restart when Hannah Roberts fed the ball to Lisa Walford who slotted the ball home.

Three Vauxhall goals towars the end of the first half meant a 4-1 scoreline and Vauxhall pressed hard after the break to net the fifth.

Macc pulled another goal back when Becky Hinde was brought down in the area and Bev Wright crashed home the penalty.

After Gemma Ash was denied by an outstanding stop by the Vauxhall keeper, two late goals for Vauxhall rubbed salt into the wound.

Natalie Richbell was Macc’s star player in a disappointing defeat.
