MACCLESFIELD Town claimed their first win of the season with victory at Hereford United.

Francis Green provided the only goal of the game, linking up with strike partner Martin Gritton with nine minutes remaining to give manager Ian Brightwell his first win at the helm.

Steve Guinan should have given the Bulls the lead but directed a tame header wide from eight yards out. Macc's best chance of the first half was created by the rampaging Gritton who beat two men on the run before being denied by goalkeeper Wayne Brown.

In the second half Gritton and Terry Dunfield wasted decent chances from close to the goal while Hereford old boy Danny Thomas saw his powerful drive gathered by Brown.

After Green's goal the visitors had goalkeeper Tommy Lee to thank for an incredible save from Trevor Benjamin in the closing minutes as they held out for the three points.
