IAN BRIGHTWELL'S new look side were denied their first win of the season by a controversial refereeing decision on the stroke of half time.
Referee Graham Horwood awarded a penalty for Carl Regan's challenge on Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu when the defender looked to have taken the ball.
Tommy Lee bravely saved Barry Conlon's spot kick but Ndumbu-Nsungu gleefully stroked home the rebound.
Looking composed and playing attacking football, Macclesfield took the lead in the ninth minute when new signings Danny Thomas and Francis Green combined for the former Boston striker to pick out the far corner with a slide rule shot from 15 yards.
They might have made it two on 42 minutes but with Green unmarked and begging for a pass at the far post, Michael Husbands' cross was intercepted by Donovan Ricketts.
Bradford dominated the second half with a succession of changes from Eddie Johnson, Paul Evans and Conlon - all saved by the competent Lee.
Even Lee was beaten in the 62nd minute when Conlon sprung the offside trap only for a shot from Omar Daley to bounce back off the foot of the post.
