Macclesfield boss John Askey is confident the Silkmen can bounce back from their midweek defeat by Luton and revive their play-off hopes.

Macc piled the pressure on Luton at the Moss Rose on Tuesday night, only for the Skrill Premier leaders to hang on for a 2-1 victory.

It was the Silkmen's first home defeat in 16 so Askey has faith they can get back on track when Forest Green visit on Saturday.

“It's just one game, there are still 17 to go so we'll have to pick ourselves up, take heart from the way we performed against the top-of-the-league team,” he said.

“You have to put the disappointment behind you, learn from it and hopefully come back with a win in the next one.

“Confidence should still be high in the squad. That's our first defeat at home since mid-September so we have to make sure we get back to winning ways and that it doesn't become a habit as soon as possible.”

Macc go into the game six points off the top five in 11th place while Forest Green are four points behind them in 14th.

“Forest Green have spent a lot of money and brought in some good players,” Askey added. “We beat them at their place when they were probably a little bit in disarray (3-2 in October).

“They're likely to be more organised now so it'll be a tough game but we have to use it to pick ourselves up and go again.”
