John Askey was delighted with the wingers he fielded against Dover, with fine showings by Adriano Moke and Chris Holroyd.

While Moke patrolled the left flank Holroyd continued his conversion from out-and-out striker to attacking right-sided midfielder.

And both carried out their duties with aplomb as Macc extended their unbeaten run at the Moss Rose to nine games.

“I thought that was as well as Chris has played this season,” said Askey, who’s now overseen five wins and four draws at home for the Silkmen.

“And Mokes was back to his best, having been out of the side for a bit.

“They both worked really hard and kept the ball well, I was pleased with them.

“The pitch was a little bit sticky and it was difficult to run with the ball but the longer the game went on the better we got and one or two started to get their confidence up and get their foot on the ball.”

Chris Holroyd has impressed playing out of his favoured position

With Arthur Gnahoua and occasional wideman Danny Whitaker ruled out through injury Stoke loanee 20-year-old Adam Thomas is Askey’s only other viable wing option at present.

But it’s a rosier tale through the spine of the team, as Matthew Barnes-Homer and Waide Fairhurst have renewed a familiar strike partnership with some success, Barnes-Homer hitting a debut goal at Dartford.

And behind them perennial performer Paul Turnbull has been well backed by Saturday’s match winner Paul Lewis, a likely target for League Two clubs at present.

“I thought Paul Lewis was fantastic against Dover and scored a fantastic goal,” said Askey.

“He ran about 50 yards to score that. He was the one that won the ball back and sprayed a great ball out to Waide.

“Chris (Holroyd) has put a good ball in and he’s somehow got on the end of it – I thought he was fantastic.

“If people are watching him he’ll surely be a target for some league clubs.”

Askey's central defence will need attention though. Luke Waterfall - who has to return to parent club Scunthorpe after the visit to Nuneaton on November 1 - won't be allowed to face Wrexham on Friday night and there are injury concerns surrounding George Pilkington and Will Haining.
