MARY Dendy threw the form book out of the window as they shocked ECL leaders Wilmslow Sports.

Their 2-0 win at Jim Evison Fields, Wilmslow’s first loss of the campaign, avenged an 8-0 drubbing earlier in the season.

Perhaps the hosts were guilty of underestimating their opponents but Dendy finally produced the sort of form that won them the Inter-League Cup last season with a goal in each half by top scorer Matty Morris.

This result throws the title race wide open with four teams realistically competing for the title. Wilmslow are still the favourites but if they slip up, Poynton Nomads, Club AZ and Boarhound must be ready to pounce.

The Nomads came out on top in their game at High Lane to retain second spot. Alan Hay’s opener was cancelled out by a stunning 40-yard strike from High Lane’s Dave Wilde.

In the second half, a Dan Allman penalty put the Nomads ahead and Tom Gaskell added two more before Tony Graydon hit a second for the hosts.

Old Alts’ ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ season continued as they had a fine first half at home to Juno United and capitulated after the break, a 4-0 defeat anchoring them to the foot of the table.

Mark Hughes’ header gave Juno the lead in the second half and they then hit three goals in 10 minutes, Sam Woodward, Darren Wilson and Tom Weedall hitting the net.

On an adjacent pitch, Old Alts Youth also went down 4-0, to Club AZ.

Again the half-time score was 0-0 but debutant Jonathan Blackburn hit two in the second half, with Danny Vaughan and Neil Benney adding the others for AZ, who currently sit in third.

Boarhound had an important win at Poynton to keep their outside chances of the title alive.

Poynton’s personnel changes in defence proved costly, with goalkeeper Steve Hardicre in excellent form to keep the scoreline down to 3-1.

In the first half, Poynton’s young side struggled to cope with the more experienced and more physical Boarhound and turned around 2-0 down, Nathan Hulley and Ryan Stewart scoring.

Although Leo Faulkner’s second-half goal gave them hope, Jamie Collins’ goal sealed the victory for Boarhound.

Rory Fallon scored the only goal of the game between Poynton Kings and Old Alts Vets. Victory for the Vets takes them back to fifth place in the ECL table.
