MACCLESFIELD Town have finally secured the services of central defender Simon Weaver after weeks of speculation.

The Lincoln City man will sign this morning for an initial one-month loan, but is available to sign on a permanent basis should he impress manager Brian Horton.

The Silkmen had a loan offer for Bradford City defender Jason Gavin blocked by the FA in midweek, but kept their eye on Weaver whilst playing for Lincoln's reserves.

Club chief executive Colin Garlick confirmed: "Simon has come in for one month so Brian can have a look at him. He will be available for the weekend."

Weaver's former Imps team-mate Mark Bailey said the defender would be a good addition to the squad.

He told us: "Simon wears his heart on his sleeve. He's an out and out centre half and I think he'll do well."

Weaver, aged 26, will make Saturday's trip to Yeovil, and could come in for youngster Michael Briscoe, who figured for the reserve team against Shrewsbury Town on Wednesday.
