NEW signing Marvin Robinson is hungry for success.

The striker joined Macclesfield Town from League Two rivals Lincoln.

And the prolific 26-year-old is convinced the Silkmen can push for promotion next season.

"Weére aiming for the play-offs - nothing less," said the Crewe-born marksman. "When I was speaking to the manager [Brian Horton] thatés all we talked about. If heéd said all he wanted to do was stay out of the bottom six then I wouldnét have come.

"Everyone knows how tight the league was last year. At Lincoln we were drawing games all season until the end and we reached the play-offs.

"We have to be successful - Iém not interested in anything else. Who wants to play for a club who only wants to finish 12th - you might get longer holidays but ités boring."

The former Derby County forward made his debut for The Rams against Arsenal in 1998 - and his first start against Manchester United - before spells at eight other clubs including Stoke, Walsall and Stockport County.

Despite his nomadic career, Robinson has never struggled to find the back of the net - hitting 26 goals in 115 appearances, of which 53 were from the substitutesé bench.

Indeed, he was Lincolnés top-scorer last season with 11 goals, and the Sincil Bank club were desperate to keep hold of him.

But contract talks broke down when ex-Imps boss Keith Alexander left for Peterborough - and he was happy to make the switch to Macclesfield.

"I was impressed by what Brian Horton had to say," explained Robinson. "He told me his plans and how I fitted in, and it was exactly what I wanted to hear. That was more important than anything else.

"At Lincoln I was offered a new deal, but the new manager [John Schofield] came in and never contacted me. The club made the play-offs last season, but I didnét know what the managerés plans were, so I came here."

Meanwhile, Horton will revert to 4-4-2 next season - and use Martin Bullock in a more central role. The manager will ditch the 5-3-2 formation and move the winger inside, where he can have more of an influence.

"I want to get Bully involved more," said Horton. "He complains he doesnét get enough of the ball when heés out on the wing, so heéll play more central next season."
