Should this Saturday’s fixture go ahead, Gillingham face a lengthy trek north from Kent to face Macc.

The county’s sole Football League side currently sit in 17th place, five points ahead of second-bottom Barnet but also just seven away from Wycombe in the play-off places.

Gillingham’s away form has been something of a talking point in recent months, as they failed to win on the road for an incredible 35 games, ending a stretch that began in May 2009 with a win a Oxford last month.

During that time, the Gills parted company with manager Mark Stimson, who led the club to League One via a play-off win over Shrewsbury in 2009. Currently boss at Barnet, Stimson left the club after their relegation the following season.

Andy Hessenthaler took over this summer for his second spell as manager but he’s struggled to lead Gillingham to the top half of League Two.

Although the Gills have put an end to their unenviable winless away streak, and followed it up with a win at Stimson’s present club, just nine points from 33 on the road means they face an uphill battle to make a return to the third tier this time around.

Although Hessenthaler has lost the services of Swindon loan defender Callum Kennedy, the postponement of their weekend game against Rotherham means someof his injured players such as Simon King, Andy Barcham, Garry Richards, Dennis Oli and Curtis Weston means they should be available for the Moss Rose game.

Defender John Nutter – who received a red card in the club’s FA Cup defeat to Dover Athletic – is eligible to play after suspension.

It’s more than a decade since Macc beat Gillingham, their only victory came at home in 1999, when Sammy McIlroy’s team had climbed to Division Two. The Kent club did the double over the Silkmen two years ago.

A victory for Macc is priced at 6/4 by 888sport but the recent away improvement of the Gills puts them at 19/10 with bet365 for a win.

Totesport are offering 23/10 on the draw and Betdaq’s 9/4 on Macc keeping a clean sheet may attract some punters.
