MACCLESFIELD Town have performed a U-turn over Kevin Townson.

The 22-year-old striker was sacked last Thursday by the Silkmen for "serious misconduct" for urinating in a car park.

Townson was given 14 days’ notice, but Macc have now agreed to take the transfer-listed forward back. He has been fined two weeks’ wages instead.

"Kevin Townson promptly apologised to the offended parties without reserve, so we decided to give him a second chance," said Macclesfield chairman Rob Bickerton, who said he had not spoken to the PFA.

"We have fined him instead."

The former England Under-19 international was caught short after travelling to training from his Merseyside home eight days a go. On his arrival at Macclesfield Leisure Centre, the former Rochdale hitman relieved himself in the car park.

Townson, said: "I'd been on a two-hour journey to training in the morning and been drinking water on the way. We came into a car park and I was dying for the toilet. I looked around and there was nobody about but somebody, somewhere saw it and made a complaint to the club."

"I went to see the chairman on the Thursday and he just handed me a letter straight away which was the termination of my contract. I thought it was a practical joke to start with.

"What I did was wrong but I never deserved to be sacked."

Townson, contracted to the end of the season, claims the club’s financial position was the major factor in him being axed, and immediately contacting the PFA.

"It’s plain for all to see," said Townson, who is not entirely satisfied with how the matter has been resolved. "I’ve still been fined two weeks’ wages. I’ve got a mortgage to pay and Christmas is coming up, but it’s better than not having a job."

Townson, who joined from Rochdale in the summer, has scored twice in 11 appearances this season, including five starts.
