High Lane soon got over last week’s cup defeat  as they hit Old Alts East for seven in a comfortable 7-1  victory in the league.

High Lane took an early lead through Jack Gorrie but Alts top scorer Nick Scholes got the visitors back in the game  following  a long throw from Andy Wallis and it was all square at half-time.

Fitness began to tell in the second half as Alts found to their cost.

Dave Wilde with two, Matt Dunn, Mark Woodcock  and Dan Wyatt all scored for High Lane who remain sixth but have several games in hand.

At Crossford Bridge it was Poynton Kings who took the points after an even contest with Old Alts A.

There was nothing between them until 10 minutes from time when pressure from Scott Wright  forced Alts to put through their own net to seal victory for Kings.

In the Brian Hillson League Cup quarter-final, two goals in each half from Stuart Johnston proved to be too much as Poynton Nomads crushed Poynton Village 7-0.

Jon McCartney gave Nomads the lead before Johnston came to the fore.

Not only did he score twice but he added an assist as Tom Gaskell headed home his pinpoint corner.

The second half followed a similar pattern – two goals from Johnston and one from substitute Andy Kershaw.

The Inter-League Cup produced its fair share of shocks   this weekend and none more so than at Mulberry Sports Centre.

Last season’s beaten finalists and one of the favourites for this season’s crown Club AZ fell to a resurgent Sandbach Town side who scored three unanswered goals in the opening 15 minutes to set up a famous 4-3 victory.

Fraser Kenner, Anthony Evans and Matt Davies  stunned  the hosts as they all scored early on but, despite Jon Blackburn  and Jamie Collins pulling the score back to 3-2 by half-time and AZ pressing for the equaliser, it was Kenner who scored the decisive goal on the break to put the visitors 4-2 up.

An own goal gave AZ hope but Sandbach defended  well and held on to take a deserved semi-final spot.

Two of the four ties had to be settled in extra-time. In the all ECFL clash at Jim Evison Fields,  FC Flyers overcame rivals Cheadle Hulme after the game finished all square after 90 minutes.

Mike Hooley gave the visitors the lead but Scott McGowan equalised to send the tie into extra-time.

McGowan grabbed his second and Danny Cooke secured the tie with 10  minutes to go.

Also through to the semis go new boys Toft Tornados who saw off Curshaws after extra-time at Newall Avenue.

Tornados, who play in a local church league, have proved a tough team to beat  in their debut season and took the lead with a goal after five minutes from William Beresford-Ince.

A Joe Watkin goal tied the match but Nick Wakefield’s goal in the first half of extra-time decided the match in Tornados favour.

Mary Dendy belied their lowly league status to turn the form book upside down to defeat Tarporley Vivs Reserves 2-1 at Jubilee Fields in Bunbury.

Dendy opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Martin Brunker sent the ball across the area and Joe Ragdale couldn’t miss.

Vics continued to be in the ascendancy,  hitting the bar and having the ball cleared off the line.

On 58 minutes though,  Brunker’s corner was only partially cleared and Steve Rowlands crashed a shot home to make it 2-0.

Dendy defended solidly despite losing Neil Hodkinson with a twisted ankle.

With 17 minutes remaining, Vics got back in the match when Sam Winter turned and hit Ali Taylor’s free kick past  Matt Robinson to make it 2-1.

Although Vics pushed for the equaliser, Dendy held on.
