Alderley Edge hot shot Alex Read has been selected for the English Independent Schools’ Football Association’s Under-14 team.

Alex, 13, has scored 23 goals from midfield for the Manchester Grammar School Under-13 side and will step into the higher level for England ISFA side.

Currently with Oldham School of Excellence, Alex is a Manchester United fan and says his role model and favourite player is Red Devil and Scotland dynamo Darren Fletcher.
Alex said: “It's a great honour to be selected.

“All I want to do is try as hard as I can and do my best both for MGS and for Oldham and see where it takes me.”

MGS coach Chris Lawrence added: “Alex’s performances at the recent Repton Festival were exceptional.

“He stood out as one of the best players against others from clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs. He fully deserves his place in the national side.”
