Queens went fourth as they took advantage of the top three being in cup quarter-final action by beating Prestbury 2-1 at Bonis Hall Lane.

It was Prestbury who started the brighter with Craig Scott having an early penalty shout waved away  but they did take the lead when Ed Haslam headed into his own net during a goalmouth scramble.

Simon McMahon further boosted  Prestbury’s confidence when he saved a penalty from Stu Ainsworth  but the tables were turned as Ainsworth atoned for his miss  by scoring the equaliser. He latched  onto a back pass that fell short and finished with confidence.

It was Ainsworth again who scored the winner in the second half. McMahon threw the ball out to a substitute defender and, perhaps not yet atuned to the pace of the game, he was dispossessed by Ainsworth who gratefully fired home.

Boarhound moved above Vale into fifth after a comfortable 5-2  victory against basement club Fermain. Their twin strike force of Dec Fletcher and Dave Short did the damage with Fletcher grabbing a hat-trick and Short a brace.

In the First Division, Nags Head had an easy victory at Poynton as they trounced their hosts 7-0.

There were two goals apiece from Craig Millward and Anthony Byrne, a penalty from Lee Johnstone and further goals from player-manager Lee Anderson and substitute Darryl Wymbs.

After the game, despite a handsome victory, Anderson was quick to praise fellow centre half Keith Hodgkinson who he described as ‘outstanding in the last three games.’

Chilli Banana moved up to third with  a 3-1 victory against Sporting Weston.

Jonny Leigh and John Williams had Chilli two goals up inside the first 15 minutes  but the visitors battled hard and were back  in the game 10 minutes into the second half when Graham Bemment gave away a penalty  and David Leishman took full advantage to make it 2-1.

Chilli’s winner came with 17 minutes remaining when Mark Birchenough nodded home Jimmy Baskerville’s cross.

A remarkable game at Clarke Lane saw Poynton Legion draw 4-4 with Tytherington Juniors, a result that extends Legion’s unbeaten run to six games going back to mid-November.

Tythy deservedly took the lead but Luke Rimmer equalised, turning home a Si Williams free kick. Two goals in seven minutes put the visitors 3-1 up but there was still time for Luke Rimmer to set up Rob Bradbury to pull back the deficit to a single goal before half time.

Bradbury turned provider on the hour mark as he set up Luke Williams to side-foot past the keeper to make it 3-3 but an injury to keeper Ash Mernock meant a switch of personnel at the back with centre half Si Wiliams, who had deputised so successfully last week, taking over goalkeeping duties.

Tythy took full advantage of the disruption as they snatched the lead at 4-3 but Legion came back yet again to grab a deserved point when Rob Bradbury set up Luke Williams for his second.

On target for Tythy were Sam Fraser with two, Carl Barlow and Lewis Evans.
