Trade Mark Collections East Cheshire League : Prestbury look to be the team to beat after they overcame current champions FC Flyers 5-2 with three extra-time goals in their Brian Hillson League Cup tie at Jim Evison Fields.

Flyers started well with Ben Mellor giving them the lead but Prestbury drew level through Ed Price.

The visitors began to turn the game around in the second half with Jordan Gregory becoming increasingly influential and controlling play while stand-in keeper Ryan Stewart was  in fine form in goal.

However, he was beaten from the penalty spot as Joe Ingham gave the home side the lead.

John Slater (above) got the crucial goal that took the game into extra time but it was two spectacular free kicks from distance by Jake McGarry that clinched it. Pat Walker put the icing on the cake with a fifth as Prestbury beat Flyers for the first time this season.

FC Woodford fell to a surprisingly heavy defeat at home to High Lane with Jimmy Williamson and Dean Whittaker causing the majority of the problems for their hosts. It was Williamson who opened the scoring with a 25-yard curler into the top corner.

Ten minutes later it was 2-0, Whittaker latching onto a through ball and his shot was parried into the path of Jim Leeson for a simple tap-in.

A bullet header from Alex Butterworth got Woodford back in the match before half-time but five minutes into the second half the visitors’ two-goal lead was restored as a jinking run from Whittaker set up Leeson to smash home from 12 yards.

Rob Crosby made it 4-1 as he headed home Simon Birch’s long throw but a Jason Rathmill own goal made it 4-2 with 20 minutes remaining.

Ten minutes later  Williamson found the bottom corner with his free kick to make it 5-2 to round off a great performance for last season’s beaten finalists.

Bulls Head played Mary Dendy for the third time this season at Woodford Rec – all in cup competitions – but it seems to be a format they like as once again they overcame their opposition from Great Warford to progress.

Bulls led 2-0 at half time with Tom Skade opening the scoring after he latched onto a clever back-heel from Matt Dent.

Dent himself scored the second with a dipping shot past Matt Robinson after an assist from Marc Toomey.

Dendy changed their formation in the second half and it paid dividends with goals from Matt Morris and Adam Taylor taking the tie into extra time at 2-2.

It was left to Pete Gregson to take the headlines as he jinked past two defenders to score the winner after being played through by John Chesters.

Cup holders Club AZ are also safely through after beating Old Alts 4-1 at Crossford Bridge with two goals apiece from Rory Bradbury and Josh Bowman.

Jeff Marshall scored for Alts.
