East Cheshire League: A pulsating derby game at Bollington Rec between Poynton Nomads and rivals Kings ended all square at 3-3 in the only league game of the day.

Nomads centre half Jon Blissett scored for the second week in a row to put the home side in the lead when he headed home a Stuart Johnston free kick but Kings came back, scoring twice before half time through Josh Roberts and Tom Darcy.

A header by Tom Gaskell levelled the match early in the second half but Colin Speed made it 3-2 to the visitors, even though he appeared to use his hand which wasn’t spotted by referee Lee Jones.

With both teams desperate for points the latter stages of the game became punctuated with petty fouls and Jones’ notebook quickly filled up with players from both sides.

Five minutes from time, yet another free kick led to the final drama.

Johnston, starting his first full game following three months out with back surgery fired a free kick into the Kings defensive wall but the rebound fell kindly and he smashed the rebound home to give Nomads a vital point.

In the second round of the Inter-League Cup there were some excellent results for teams in the East Cheshire League against opponents from the Crewe and District League.

At Hassal Road, Cheadle Hulme thrashed last season’s runners-up, MMU Alsager 6-1.

Mark Alcock, who finished with a hat-trick, got them on their way in the first half and despite an equaliser from Marvin Sorhainho, goals from Mike Hooley and Scott Bradley gave the visitors a two-goal cushion.

Alcock grabbed two more in the second half including a spectacular effort from 30 yards but the final goal of the tie came from Ben Riad, his sweet volley made all the more sweet as it was it was his first for the club.

FC Flyers dedicated their 7-3 victory against Malpas Reserves to the memory of former female wrestler and local chef Chrissy Thompson, who the team had been raising money for by having their backs waxed.

Chrissy, who lived in Colshaw, had been diagnosed with cancer and sadly passed away the night before her own fundraiser at the Wilmslow Tavern on Saturday night.

Scott McGowan in his usual inimitable style scored a hat-trick for Flyers who remain unbeaten this season and rivals should take note that he’s been joined upfront by another prolific marksmen, Tom Gill who also scored.

Danny Cooke, Kyle Shoesmith and Sean O’Mara were all on target as Flyers made their way comfortably to the quarter-finals.

Mary Dendy put in a vintage performance as they came from a goal behind to defeat Bentley, a team they beat in the final four years ago.

In a tight first half there was no score but five minutes into the second period Josh Clark gave the visitors the lead finishing confidently after a cross-field pass from Callum Herd found him free in the penalty area and he dummied the stand in goalkeeper Chris Shepherd to sidefoot home.

Bentley piled on the pressure but Dendy defended stoutly, determined not to concede a second.

After forcing two excellent saves from Ash McConnell in the Bentley goal two goals inside two minutes turned the game on its head.

First Ryan Fallon twisted and turned on the edge of the penalty area and fired home the equaliser after great work from Steve Rawlings and Martin Brunker then Brunker, again sent scampering down the wing by Matty Martin, crossed low into the penalty box and somehow 6ft 3in striker Fallon stooped almost to the ground to head home Dendy’s second.

Bentley piled on the pressure in the final moments but despite players dropping to the floor in sheer exhaustion nothing could prevent Dendy from celebrating as referee Derek Scott blew the final whistle.
