NEW-look Macclesfield survived for 40 minutes with ten men against high-flying Peterborough to end their nine-game winless streak.

Lady luck finally turned for Ian Brightwell as his team took the lead in the 35th-minute when youngster Izak Reid's shot ballooned off Kieran Charnock to loop over giant Posh keeper Joe Lewis.

But the pattern of play changed in the 50th minute when teenager Gareth Evans was given his marching orders for elbowing Lewis.

But it was a battling second-half display from a side that contained all of Brightwell's four new loan signings.

Peterborough were stifled in the last quarter, also often resorting to speculative long-range shots.

That said, Macc twice had to clear close-range headers off the line with Terry Dunfield blocking an effort from Chris Whelpeal before sub Luke Dimech made another desperate lunge to clear a Liam Hatch header from underneath the crossbar.

Brightwell said: "True, our luck changed today but this team played with great spirit and we finally got what we deserved."
