There were mixed fortunes for the MSL sides in the Cheshire Cup as Pack Horse and Boarhound both travelled to Wirral to take on Big House and Prenton Dell from the Wallasey League.

The Pack produced an excellent defensive display to ease through to the next round 2-1 thanks to goals from Alex Baird and Harry Wheetman and a stirling performance at left-back from Danny Bradley.

But Boarhound weren’t so fortunate, going down 5-2 to Prenton Dell.

With both Pack Horse and Boarhound in Cheshire Cup action the Premier Division programme was somewhat depleted but it did give Railway View the opportunity to take top spot after a hard-fought victory against last season’s bitter rivals Broken Cross.

The result, 4-2 to Railway, saw all the goals come in the first half.

Railway raced into a 2-0 lead with goals from Oli Brazier and Jamie Collins but Broken Cross levelled at 2-2 before Jamie Collins hit his second goal of the game and Simon Band scored what proved to be the winner for the second week in a row.

At Bonis Hall Lane , Prestbury rued missed chances and the advantage of a strong wind in their favour in the first half as they fell to two late second-half goals from Pete Eccles and Tegg Westbrook. Fermain were delighted as they secured their first points of the season.

The First Division played the reverse fixtures from last week so it was a chance for teams to redeem themselves, particularly in the Poynton derby where Poynton Village had the chance to avenge their 3-2 defeat last week to neighbours Legion.

Unfortunately for them they lost again, this time 2-1. Matt Allen scored both goals for Legion, including a header which was all the more remarkable as he was the smallest player on the park by some distance. Lee Stubbs pulled a goal back for village with a great shot following good work on the right by Todd Allen.

A mention too for Legion’s assistant manager Phil Bradbury who took on the refereeing duties at short notice.

Albion were unlucky not to take all three points at home to Nags Head at Windmill Street as, despite going a goal down, they led 4-1 thanks to a first-half hat-trick from Liam Harrison and a Josh Lea goal.

Nags Head showed why they top the league as they fought back with goals from Anthony Byrne, Mark Gee, Lee Johnstone and Mark Rollinson. Albion could have snatched it at the death but failed to capitalise on three late chances.

Chilli Banana got off to a terrible start against Bruce at Victoria Park, conceding two early goals in the first 15 minutes and things got worse early in the second half as they went further behind. Matt Beresford gave them hope as he made it 3-1 but a fourth finished them off.

The goals for Bruce came from Ash Ault, Liam Gray, Craig Templeton and Aaron Loftus whose shot took a big deflection.

Tytherington won handsomely again against Sporting Weston, 12-2, a result that means Weston have now conceded 21 in two games against Tythy.

Remarkably 17 of those have been scored by just two players – Carl Barlow and Stephen Bellerby – who got nine between them last week.

The pair accounted for a further eight this week with Barlow netting five and Bellerby three.

Joining them on the scoresheet were Lewis Evans, Griffin Gardner, Tony Light and Alex Hibbert.

For Sporting, who continue to front up despite heavy defeats, the goals came from Jason Hanaghan and a bizarre own goal from keeper Toby Hughes.
