MACC boss Keith Alexander believes Matt Tipton has ‘one last chance’ to make the grade in the Football League.

Town’s prodigal son has returned to the Moss Rose for a third time, signing a one-year deal after leaving Blue Square North Droylsden.

The 29-year-old former Oldham and Bury striker played the opening half of a 1-0 friendly win against Tranmere that saw Alexander blood two trialists with hugely differing backgrounds.

Cape Verde international Jose Veiga began his career at Benfica while Andrew Gascoigne has been plucked from the obscurity of Sheffield Sunday League.

However, it’s Tipton’s return that has captured the attention of Macc fans.

“We need to score some goals and hopefully ‘Tippy’ can do that for us,” said Alexander of the club’s all-time League top scorer.

“He is enthusiastic and good to have about the place. But he knows this is probably his last chance at this level so hopefully it will bring the best out of him.”

Algerian Hamza Bencherif netted the only goal after 11 minutes – his first for the club after joining from Nottingham Forest.
