Boarhound put last weekend’s cup semi-final exit well and truly behind them as they demolished Juno United 9-0 in the league.

The home side were simply no match for Maurice Sutton’s side, who attacked in waves and could have scored many more had they managed to spring Juno’s offside trap more often.

The match was over as a contest by half-time with the visitors six goals to the good but having lost twice already goal difference could play a part at the end of the season.

The only player to leave disappointed was two-goal midfielder Ian Potts who blamed his choice of footwear for not completing his hat-trick – he’d turned up in a brand new pair of rugby boots.

In the cup quarter-finals the weather nearly put paid to Old Alts A against Poynton Kings but credit to both teams and the match official who deemed the surface playable.

After a lacklustre first half Poynton Kings finally found their feet but only after going behind, Dave Howard scoring on the break 10 minutes into the second half. They replied with two of their own but conceded an equaliser from a set-piece less than 15 minutes from time.

Simon Sidderley’s free kick crashed off the underside of the bar but Ben Reeves reacted first to slide the ball home. With no substitutes to call on Old Alts began to tire and Kings took full advantage to seal their place in the semis with a 4-2 win. Colin Speed scored twice with Luke Murray and Tom Darcy grabbing one apiece.

Poynton Nomads have hit some form, scoring 15 in their last two games but their emphatic 5-1 win against Club AZ is certainly a result that will make the rest of the ECL sit up and take notice.

Jake Lodgehas been an inspired addition to Jonny Blisset’s squad and he and Andy Kershaw both scored a goal in each half to give Nomads an unassailable 4-0 lead.

With AZ missing both first-choice strikers through injury, goals were always hard to come by and they lacked a cutting edge all afternoon.

Chris Holland pulled one back from the spot but it was mere consolation as Marc Toomey made it 5-1 with a late header. With two Poynton sides now in the semi-finals they will be hoping to avoid each other in the draw and set up a mouth watering all-Poynton final.

Meanwhile Steve Bennett’s double ensured Wilmslow Sports go into the semi-finals to defend the trophy they won in 2009. Sam Marshall made it 10 for the season as he scored for Poynton Village but Wilmslow won the encounter 2-1.
