Matthew Barnes-Homer brought his pre-season goal tally to five with a brace against New Mills.

It took the former Wolves trainee just 90 seconds to open the scoring at Church Lane, racing onto a through-ball and slotting past the helpless James Coates in the hosts’ goal.

Charlie Henry doubled the Silkmen’s lead on 10 minutes with his first goal for the club.

Euloge Ahodikpe was the provider and his cross was despatched with a fine volley from Henry.

But, with a rout looking on the cards, the Evo-Stik League side halved the deficit.

Carlos Meakin gathered a loose ball 20 yards from goal and drilled home a low shot, despite the efforts of Lance Cronin.

But Ahodikpe and Barnes-Homer struck in quick succession to make the half-time score 4-1.

The Togo international produced a neat finish when a poor goal-kick from the Millers ended up at the feet of Ahodikpe, who made no mistake with his finish just inside the area.

The last meaningful action of the opening half saw Barnes-Homer once again get clear of the defence and beat the stranded Coates.

Numerous changes at the break and into the second half served mainly to disjoint Macc’s play and, after surviving a few opportunities for the hosts, when Max Lonsdale narrowly cleared the bar and Steve Moore found his way through snuffed out, Macc made it five through Arthur Gnahoua.

The trialist was initially denied a goal by Coates’ save but he reacted first to score with the rebound.

Jack Mackreth rounded off a good night for Macc just before the end with a teasing solo effort. The capture from Barrow made inroads into the Millers’ goalmouth and calmly chipped in to complete the scoring.
