AFTER Macc Town’s defeat to Dagenham and Redbridge, manager Keith Alexander admitted he was struggling to fathom out his side’s dismal home form.

The 4-0 loss on Saturday was Macc’s seventh league defeat at the Moss Rose and only Grimsby and Barnet have garnered fewer points on their home grounds.

When Alexander joined the club in February, the Silkmen’s home record, in which they took 14 points from six games, was crucial in avoiding the threat of relegation.

But this year, Macc have been a better team on their travels, a fact that is causing a headache for Alexander.

"The players have been good for me in recent weeks, I’m only disappointed that out home form is probably the worst in the division," he said after Saturday’s game.

"Our good run has come to an end and we don’t know why our home performances haven’t been anything like our away ones.

"Last year we had great home form when I came here, but at the moment individual mistakes are costing us. They cost you at any level and, right now, any time a team attacks us we look like we’re about to concede."

The manner of the defeat clearly riled the proud Alexander, who felt his side’s efforts had been scuppered by poor luck and a well below-par showing that saw the players leave the field to a chorus of jeers from the fans.

"In all honesty I don’t think we’ve had any luck," added Alexander. "But the first goal was a poor one to concede and the second goal came from a deflection and we’re two down very quickly. For some reason we’re not performing at home and we’ve got to get to the bottom of it.

"When they’re three and four up they can pass the ball around and look brilliant. We’ve done it when we’ve been well up in games.

"If we’d scored the first goal it’s a different kettle of fish but they got it and they made us look second best all over, I have to accept that."

Watching Saturday’s defeat from the stands was David Moyes, but the Everton manager’s opposite number in the forthcoming FA Cup game hasn’t given the third round a second thought.

"I’m really not interested in the FA Cup because it’s not a game that’s going to do anything for me, it’s a game that the club and the supporters can enjoy but our bread and butter’s the league, and we have to think about the cup in three weeks time."

"The last time we lost heavily at home (6-0 at home to Darlington) we won the next three, so let’s hope we do that again."
