CENTRAL defender Paul Morgan has been awarded the Player of the Year by Macc fans.

The on-loan defender, whose contract with Bury ends this summer, has been without a doubt the club’s most consistent player during the season, scoring one goal in more than 40 games.

"It’s always nice to get some personal recognition, more so as it was the fans who voted for the award," the Irishman told the club’s official website.

"From a personal point of view I’m pleased to have played as often as I have and I also believe we can point to positives."

Morgan also scooped the award voted for by the squad members.

Manager Keith Alexander said of his long-term associate: "Certain players have done well in spells this season, but Paul has been consistent throughout.

"He’s a well-deserving Player of the Year and I’m hoping he will agree something with us to stay next season."

A continuing groin problem means that the 30-year-old will sit out this Saturday’s season-ending game at Grimsby Town.

Top scorer Gareth Evans was edged into second place by Morgan.
