Macclesfield will meet up with Lewis Chalmers again this season, after his switch to fellow Blue Square Bet Premier side Grimsby Town.

Midfielder Chalmers was released from Macc at the end of the campaign and turned to former Silkmen boss Gary Simpson in his quest to find a new club. He’s now joined Conference rivals Grimsby, managed by another former Silkman, Rob Scott.

The 26-year-old admitted he was ‘gutted’ to leave the Moss Rose after their relegation from the Football League.

"I was told by Macclesfield just a few days before I was released that I would be getting a new contract, so when I got the letter through the post I was disappointed. I felt betrayed," said the former Manchester City trainee.

"I found it hard to find myself a club. I have my agent, and also previous managers who helped me out.

"But Gary Simpson was excellent with us and started sending us in the right direction. He did the same with all the lads who got released.

"I’ve signed for a very good club and I’m happy to join them.

"I’m just looking forward to getting back playing now and focusing on getting my foot back in the door. It’s a good club, I’m happy."
