MACC Town Ladies were narrowly beaten by Fletcher Moss Rangers, who have proved to be the dominant force in the league.

The table-toppers’ record before kick-off was 17 wins in 17 games and Moss had hit 117 goals and conceded just 14.

However, any thoughts of a comfortable 18th win were dispelled from the opening whistle as Macclesfield came out in determined fashion.

Competing well throughout, Macc played some excellent football and frustrated the visitors while creating their own chances.

The game ebbed and flowed and it was on the half-hour mark that a rare lapse in concentration in the Macc area let Rangers in to stab the ball home for what proved to be the winning goal.

Undaunted, the Silkgirls continued to take the game to Fletcher Moss and kept the visitors’ strong defence on their toes for the rest of the game.

At the other end Macc’s defence was also robust, with keeper Jo Mape in good form. The pick of Mape’s stops was a brave double save at the feet of the opposition.

The last quarter was almost all Macclesfield as they searched in vain for the equaliser.

When the final whistle blew, the visitors were relieved to have maintained their 100 per cent record with their narrowest win of the season.

Every Macc player had an excellent game, but particular credit goes to first team debutant Jen Monaghan, who was a constant problem for the visitors, working tirelessly throughout, and Janet Bebbington, who was skilful and creative in the midfield.
