JON Parkin scored two goals in the last seven minutes - taking his tally to 14 for the season - to send Macc soaring towards the automatic promotion places.

Despite being ravaged by injury and coming off the back of an FA Cup spanking at Hull, Macc played some of their best football of the season to see off their play-off rivals.

Talismanic striker Parkin made up for earlier misses with his first goal in the 82nd minute - pouncing on Danny Whitakerés fluffed volley which bounced favourably off Mike Welchés head.

Better was to come in the final minute when sub Matt Tipton beat two players before squaring the ball unselfishly for Parkin to drill home from 20 yards out.

Macc were given a late scare when Imps centre-half Kevin McCombe flicked home a near-post header, but it was too late to salvage a result.

Whitaker should have opened the scoring on 78 minutes when he squandered a golden opportunity in front of goal - but the crowd at Moss Rose witnessed some of the Silkmenés best stuff of the season.

Long ball Lincoln were the first to threaten, with beanpole striker Ben Futcher forcing Steve Wilson into a good save at his near post with a snap volley.

Macc should have taken the lead when Graham Potter danced to the by-line to deliver a cross to Jon Parkin, who somehow managed to miss his header from three yards out.

Impsé best chance of the first half came when Richard Butcher warmed the hands of Wilson with a powerful shot which rebounded to Simon Yeo, who sent his half volley wide of the mark.
