In the Safety Screens Saturday Cup quarter-finals, Club AZ were dramatically knocked out by Altrincham League side Wilmslow Sports.

Wilmslow had taken the lead through Martin Shardlow and Paul Bethel levelled for AZ but, with barely two minutes remining, Jonny Devine scored the winner to send Wilmslow through.

In the league, the game of the day took place at Disley Sports Club as new leaders High Lane took on third-place Poynton Kings.

In a feisty game that saw three yellow and one red card Kings took the lead but were briefly pegged back when Dave Wilde headed an equaliser but Kings hit two more to lead 3-1 at the turnaround.

High Lane’s Jake Getcheffsky notched his 15th goal of the season with a real poacher’s effort at the near post but Kings secured all three points as they came straight back to score a fifth.

Rob McMurdo curled home a free kick to make it 5-3 but it was all too late and a frustrated Ben Eastwood saw red two minutes from time.

Meanwhile, Boarhound despatched a young Handforth side 6-2 at Congleton Road.

Nathan Hulley and Andy Foote gave them a two-goal cushion by half-time before Dave Short, Hulley’s second from the penalty spot, Dave Barrett – with an audacious chip from distance – and substitute Lee McIntyre made it 6-0.

Lawrence Aspinall and Stuart Maylett’s late goals made the scoreline more respectable for Handforth.

There was a valuable 3-1 win at Mary Dendy for Poynton Nomads and an inspired substitution as Jake Lodge came on to score twice in the second half.

New signing Jason Nagle gave off-form Dendy the lead but Stuart Johnstone equalised with a wonderful strike from distance.

The hosts’ stand in keeper Chris Shepherd made his mark, saving a penalty.

Wilmslow Sports had a comfortable 5-1 win at home to Poynton Village.

Steve Bennett scored on his debut and Drew Lee, Anthony Mape, Dave Kendrick and Ben Langstreath also scored. Josh Knowles scored Poynton Village’s consolation.

Old Alts A and Cheadle Hulme drew 2-2, with Dean Duigan and Ben Reeves scoring for Alts and Mike Hooley and Si Brotherton for Hulme.
