Full-back Jon Bateson was happy to claim an assist as Tony Diagne forced an FA Cup replay against Chelmsford.

Bateson hurled a long throw into the Clarets’ box where a defensive slip allowed Bateson’s opposite full-back to fire in the goal that means the two sides will meet again next Wednesday (December 14).

"It was just a long throw into the box," said the 22-year-old. "It’s bounced through everyone and Tony’s put it in, so I’ll take the assist, why not?

"Obviously we wanted to go out and win the game outright but they were a decent set of opponents, they scored and got themselves on top of the game a bit. But we’ve got ourselves back in it and given ourselves a chance."

The former Accrington man has found first-team chances hard to come by since he came to the club in but he says that, if he keeps his work rate high when he does get an opportunity, he can make his mark at the Moss Rose.

From my personal point of view I thought I did well today (at Chelmsford), I try to put the idea in the gaffer’s head by doing all I can in training, so I’ll see what happens from here.

"We’re all part of the same team, so whether you’re in the team or on the bench or not even in the squad it’s all about doing your bit in training and everyone comes together.
