Amateur football finally returned to Macclesfield after a five-week break due to the ice and snow.

Inter Macc made it through to the quarter finals of the ECL League Cup after disposing of a resilient High Lane, three second half goals securing a 5-1 win.

Hosts Inter took an early lead but were soon pegged back by Tyler Eiselt’s second goal of the season. Spurred on by a star performance by captain Will Perry, Inter regained the lead before High Lane’s fate was sealed in the second half with three second-half goals.

For the victors, Steve Turner hit a brace, as did new signing Jake McGarry, Perry notching the other.

Old Alts Youth join Inter in the quarter-finals after beating Poynton Kings 2-1, all the action coming in the first 20 minutes.

Paul Rough and James Pickering’s penalty put Alts two-up and, although Andy Wright pulled one back, the remaining 70 minutes remained scoreless.

In league action, Boarhound cruised to a 6-0 win against bottom side Old Alts A.

Dave Barrett got the league leaders off to a dream start, chipping the visitors’ keeper in the opening seconds but after a half-time scoreline of 1-0, Alts’ resilience finally broke when Dave Clowes scored early in the second half, Dec Fletcher (2) taking his tally to 25 in all competitions with Ryan Stewart and substitute Chris Taylor completing the rout.

Poynton can consider themselves unlucky in a 3-1 loss at Mary Dendy, after restricting them to just one shot at goal in the opening half hour.

However, Chris Shepherd bundled Matty Martin’s throw-in over the line to put Dendy into a barely deserved lead. Parity was restored before half-time as Ewan McKinnen finished off a delightful move down the left, heading powerfully home past Rob Tilley.

At half time Dendy manager Paul Cronshaw pulled off the hardworking but ineffectual Matt Stott and replaced him with the pace of young Simon Nicholson, it worked and, despite excellent performances from Poynton’s midfield general McKinnon and full-back Chris Rashleigh, Dendy’s pressure eventually told as they scored twice in the last five minutes to seal the game.

James Curbishley made it 2-1 and Simon Nicholson capped a fine second half with number three.

There were handshakes all round after the game but it was scant reward for Poynton who remain second from bottom.

Wilmslow Sports’ topsy-turvy season continued as they lost 4-1 at home to Poynton Nomads.

The scoreline was no reflection on the game as it was a closely-fought contest right until the final minutes. Alan Hay had given the visitors an early lead but a Steve Dootson effort in the second half levelled the match.

James Morris gave Nomads the lead with a superb before Mark Toomey made it 3-1. The icing on the cake for the visitors came when Mark Allman converted a late penalty to seal the victory.
