Macclesfield go into this weekend insisting their home form can keep them on the road back to the Football League.

John Askey's men host familiar foes in Lincoln City on Saturday and the manager says that if they can maintain their defiance of the doubters, particularly on home turf where they've lost just once, then the title isn't out of reach.

While many at the Moss would gladly snatch a place in the post-season scrap for promotion the boss is hoping he can put his feet up and watching the play-off lottery from home - once his side's title celebrations have died down.

"We've got to try to chase down Barnet – until we definitely can't catch them we'll keep going," said Askey, who's steered his side to third in the Conference table. "We don't want to be in the play-offs and if we can carry on as we are, especially at home, then we'll give ourselves a chance.

"It's fantastic to have a 100 per cent record in 2015, if we can go on to the end of the season like that we'll be top of the league. We're not looking behind us but looking forward."

Aiming to lead their charge will be Waide Fairhurst, who's flavour of the week on the internet - his goal in Saturday's 2-0 win at Kidderminster has been featured on TV stations around the world. YouTube views of his first-time half-volley from close to the halfway line have topped the 300,000 mark.

The 'Waide worldie' is the latest entry in Macc's jam-packed goal-of-the-season competition, and it's the striker's second shout, following his relative tap-in against Chester, from a mere 40 yards.

"It's the best goal that's ever been scored, according to him," added Askey. "But I was really pleased for Waide, he's done a job for us against Kidderminster after I asked him to play on the left, which is something that's obviously not natural to him, but he's worked really hard and done it for the team and to get that goal as well is really good for him."

And so to Fairhurst's former employers Lincoln, who have a half-dozen players capable of continuing Macc's unenviable habit of conceding goals to ex-Silkmen.

The Imps squad put together by one of Askey's predecessors Gary Simpson has six men who once played for Macc, including their leading scorer Ben Tomlinson, who netted in Lincoln's 2-0 win at Sincil Bank earlier this campaign.

Simpson was replaced by Chris Moyses as manager in November and they come to town as one of the division's form teams, having won seven of their last nine league games.

And as they've already done the double against the table-toppers Askey's expecting another tough assignment, adding: "They've been doing well, they've got a good squad and their results have really improved so I think it'll be a tough game. They've got a decent budget and decent players.

"We never really got going in the game at their place but we know that if we perform we've got a great chance. The league's got very tight and if we beat Lincoln there's a bit of a gap that will get even bigger."
